30th Street Senior Center began in 1979 when a small group of Nicaraguan seniors asked for a room in the 30th Street building to start a senior club.  Now San Francisco’s largest multipurpose senior center, 30th Street Senior Center serves more than 5,000 seniors per year.  Our programs and services include:

} Activities Program

} Always Active Program SM

} Nutrition Program (congregate dining rooms and a home-delivered meals)

} Bilingual Case Management Program

} Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)provided by Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco

The primary goal of 30th Street Senior Center is to help seniors remain healthy, independent and in their communities for as long as possible.  Each program plays an important role in carrying out this mission.  The seniors we serve at the 30th Street Senior Center have an average age of 78 years and are Latino (67%), Caucasian (19%), Asian (10%) and African American (1%).  More than half (55%) have incomes of less than $10,000 per year.  Half are in frail health; on average, these seniors have at least three chronic health conditions.

The Center is open six days a week, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and on holidays, offering 10,000 hours of activities each year.  Among our most popular activities are the Always Active program, English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes sponsored by City College, art, billiards and gardening.  The Center’s most important “service” is bringing people together for socializing. Seniors regularly tell staff that the Center is “my therapy", “the reason I get up every morning”, “my second home", and "opportunities to be with friends and make new friends."
